A war of pennies has resulted in a positive outcome at St. Marys Area Middle School in which three local organizations have benefitted from the students donations.
During the school's annual Penny Wars students collected $1,265 which was distributed between the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Elk County Humane Society.
A special Day of Giving assembly was held in the school gym on Thursday morning. Student Council representatives along with seventh and eighth grade class officers presented checks to organization representatives in front of the student body.
