SMASD adopts resolution supporting further charter school reform

A resolution in support of "substantial charter school funding and accountability reform" was adopted by the St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors at Monday's meeting, making official the board's position in calling for charter reform legislation "that relieves the financial burden on school districts created by charter schools."
Between the 2006-2007 and 2011-2012 school years, the district spent $952,060.21 in cyber school expenditures. State reimbursement between those years totaled $212,233.10. The estimated $276,824.14 the district is to spend on cyber schools this current school year will see no reimbursement, with the state's charter school reimbursement program having been eliminated under Governor Corbett's 2011-2012 budget.
