ST. MARYS - The SMASD Board of Directors voted to approve a tentative budget at Thursday's meeting.
As is customary, the budget will be subject to review for a 30-day period before it is put to a final vote at next month's meeting. The preliminary budget includes a total of $24,339,949 in expenditures.
Superintendent Ann Kearney said that in preparing the budget, consideration is paid to various components which include faculty, enrollment, revenue, and expenditures, but also whether "our program is working."
She said that in the 2012 Western Pa. School Guide, based on criteria that includes PSSA scores and enrollment, SMASD placed 165th out of the state's 500 public school districts. The placement was in comparison to both Intermediate Unit schools and schools of a comparable size.
