Thursday's workshop meeting of the St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors saw the presentation of the district's annual progress report. Superintendent Ann Kearney said in taking time to "reflect back on the accomplishments of these past twelve months, the community can stand proud of the school district's efforts to provide programs that embody the district's mission of 'empowering learners for the 21st century.'"
Also at Thursday's meeting, Keystone Awards were presented to Robin Johnson, supervisor of special education; Christine Kuhar, principal at Bennetts Valley and Fox Township elementary schools; Jim Wortman, principal at St. Marys Area Middle School; and Joe Collins, director of curriculum, instruction and assessment for the district. Kearney explained that Keystone Awards are given in recognition of school districts having met Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) and received PSSA scores within the benchmarks. Kearney said SMASD has for eight straight years received AYP and Keystone Awards.
