August 13, 2012

EMPORIUM - The search continues for Thomas Edward Smith, 58, of Emporium, following his attempted kidnapping of a Citizens Bank Employee at gunpoint on Aug. 8 after an alleged dispute with the bank over a mortgage foreclosure. The Emporium Borough Police Department reports that at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12, they and the Emporium-based Pa. State Police received reports that Thomas Edward Smith was sighted in the Goetz's Summit area of state Route 120 between Emporium and St. Marys.
Police responded and found that the person believed to be Smith was actually a local resident of that area. Mountaineer Search and Rescue also performed a search Sunday in the Wittimore Hill area but without finding anything conclusive.
