RIDGWAY - At Tuesday's meeting of the Elk County Solid Waste Authority, the authority continued to take steps in preparing its bid for a can densifier to be used at the Elk County Community Recycling Center at the Stackpole Complex in St. Marys.
Enforcement officer Dave Stubber said he worked on the bid document and it was reviewed by the authority's solicitor, who recommended a few changes in the wording. After the revisions are made and the document is approved, it will be sent out to businesses.
"We do have a document now that we can send out to companies and hopefully have some bids to open up at the end of January," said Elk County Recycling/Solid Waste Coordinator Bekki Titchner.
A motion to renew the lease with North Central Enterprises for the buildings at the Stackpole Complex in St. Marys was approved. The buildings house the Elk County Community Recycling Center and are used for storing recyclables and equipment. One building is used for electronics recycling and storage does not cost the authority anything and the other is rented for $180 a month, which will increase to $185 month next year.
Titchner said a letter was received from people who had purchased the old Elk Power building asking if the fee could be waived for them to bring a large amount of electronics to the center for recycling. They have been cleaning out the building and bringing truckloads of paper, electronics and other recyclable goods to the center, as nothing was removed by the old owners.
