South Fayette ends Lady Dutch season with 43-36 win

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team saw their 2011-12 season come to an end last night in McDonald when they were eliminated from the PIAA Class AAA girls’ tournament by the South Fayette Lady Lions by a 43-36 score.
While the Lady Dutch held a three-point lead at the half, 24-21, a poor third quarter was the big difference in the contest. The Lady Lions were able to outscore the Lady Dutch by a 12-2 margin in the third period of play.
The Lady Dutch were led by Adair Gennocro with 16 points on four twos, one three and a five-for-eight night from the foul line. Jenna Anderson was next with six points.
For the Lady Lions, Erika Ford led the way with 16 points on six field goals and a four-for-four night from the foul line. Caitlyn McLuckie added 12 points on one two, three threes and a one-for-two night from the foul line.
The first eight minutes of the contest was played on even terms as both teams scored 10 points.
In the second quarter the Lady Dutch put 14 points on their side of the board while limiting the Lady Lions to 11 points as St. Marys held on to a 24-21 halftime lead.
South Fayette scored 12 points in the third period while holding St. Marys to two as the Lady Lions opened a 33-26 lead with eight minutes remaining.
In the fourth quarter, each team scored 10 points, making the final score 43-36 in favor of South Fayette.

Game notes
The Lady Dutch completed their season with an 11-14 record. They ended regular-season play with a 10-12 record and were 4-6 in District 9 League play.

Senior members of the Lady Dutch are Abbey Cribbs, Sloan Foster and Jenna Anderson.

South Fayette will now travel to Sharon Area High School Saturday afternoon to take on Franklin in the first round of the PIAA Class AAA girls’ tournament.
