SSMES Olympic flagbearers

May 23, 2011

South St. Marys Street Elementary School kicked off their Eighth Annual Olympic Games on Monday morning at Dutch Country Stadium. During the opening Parade of Nations, each class, representing different countries, marched around the track of Dutch Country Stadium. Each student wore handmade-designed T-shirts. Following the parade, each class performed a song.
Kindergarten through second grade competed in events on the first day, while third through fifth grades will compete Tuesday. The Olympics were originally scheduled for May 17 and 18, but were moved back one week in hopes of better weather. Photo by Amy Cherry.
