Students at St. Boniface School held a Music Fest on Wednesday evening to celebrate the school's 125th anniversary, which was in February 2010. The program featured students in kindergarten through fifth grade reading brief summaries about the school's history and performing songs from select time periods. It got under way at 6:30 p.m. and was followed by a brief social.
"We are having a Mass and dinner on May 14, and we thought we would work the [Music Fest] program into the celebration, so the students are singing songs that go with the history of the time period," said St. Boniface School Principal Marie Giazzoni.
The time periods covered were 1885, 1913, 1941, 1969, 1997 and 2025. The program concluded with the performance of the "St. Boniface Song" by all of the students.
Giazzoni explained that Mrs. Mullaney was instrumental in putting together the evening's program.
"She used the history of our yearbook and then incorporated a little bit of history that the children will be talking about and then they will be singing the songs," Giazzoni said prior to the program.
Kindergarten students covered the time period of 1885 and performed "The ABC Song," "Ten Little Indians" and "Oh Susanna"; second grade covered 1913 and performed "Come Josephine and The Green Grass"; first grade covered 1941 and performed "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "Whistle While You Work"; fourth grade covered 1969 and performed "Hair" and "I Heard It Through The Grapevine"; third grade covered 1997 and performed "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys" and "Achy Breaky Heart"; and fifth grade covered 2025 and performed "Jailhouse Rock" and "Living on a Prayer."
