A single by St. Marysâ€™ Gabe Kraus in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Hayden Tettis to give the St. Marys team a 4-3 victory over DuBois last night at Memorial Park in the finals of the winnerâ€™s bracket of the District 10 Tournament.
St. Marys tied the game at 3-all in the home half of the sixth inning to force the extra frame. DuBois led 3-0 going into the bottom of the sixth.
St. Marys had five hits in the contest, all singles. Getting those hits were Hayden Tettis, Timmy Wehler, Gabe Kraus (the game winner), Logan Hoffman and Alex Oâ€™Neill.
Ryan Bressler started on the mound for St. Marys and worked 3 2/3 innings, giving up four hits, walking two and striking out three. Austin Sadosky worked 1 1/3 innings of relief, giving up two hits and walking four. Ryan Newton worked two innings of relief, striking out two.
Thomas Grecco started on the mound for DuBois and had a no-hitter going after five innings. Tettis broke that up with a single in the home half of the sixth. Nick Cotter came on in relief and worked 1 2/3 innings, giving up five hits and walking two.
St. Marys won the coin toss and were the home team.
The top of the first inning saw DuBois score a run on a walk and a double. In the home half of the inning, Tettis walked but was left stranded.
DuBois went in order in the top half of the second inning. St. Marys left a man on base in their half of the inning.
DuBois left a man on in the third, while St. Marys went down in order. DuBois added another run in the top of the fourth on two hits and an error to take a 2-0 lead, while St. Marys went down in order in their half of the inning.
DuBois increased their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth on two hits and an error. St. Mays left one man on base in their half of the inning.
DuBois left the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning. Tettis led off the home half of the sixth with a single, breaking up Greccoâ€™s bid for a no-hitter. Timmy Wehler singled and Sadosky reached base on a fielderâ€™s choice. Kraus reached base on a fielderâ€™s choice, forcing Tettis at the plate. A single by Hoffman scored Wehler, while Sadosky was thrown out at the plate. Brendon Roller reached base on a fielderâ€™s choice, scoring pinch runner Ben Uberti and Hoffman and knotting the game at 3-all.
DuBois went down in order in the top half of the seventh. Ryan Bressler led off the home half of the inning with a walk. Tettis reached base on a fielderâ€™s choice, erasing Bressler. Tettis moved to second on a passed ball. With one out, Sadosky drew a walk. Kraus singled to score Tettis and give St. Marys the 4-3 victory.
St. Marys will return to action Monday, July 11 when they play the winner of Saturdayâ€™s DuBois vs. Punxsutawney game for the District 10 title. Punxsy defeated Warren 13-2 in four innings last night.
