St. Marys Area cross country squads sweep Kane

The St. Marys Area boys' and girls' cross country teams both picked up wins over Kane on Tuesday afternoon in a meet at the St. Marys Area High School that also featured runners from Ridgway and DuBois Central Catholic. The Dutchmen defeated the Wolves 23-34, while the Lady Dutch took a 22-39 win over the Lady Wolves.
In the boys' race, St. Marys Area's Alec Foster crossed the line first in a time of 17:17 after leading the entire way. The Kane duo of Avery Colson and Chris Hunt were second and third in times of 17:446 and 17:51, respectively. St. Marys swept the next four spots as Austin Frey finished fourth in 18:42, K.O. Deyev was fifth in 19:40, Nathan McFadden was sixth in 19:55, and Mitchell Schreiber was seventh in 19:56.
Kane's Bailey Colson and Jack Ball were eighth and ninth in 19:58 and 20:43, respectively, and the Wolves' John Gelsick was 12th in a time of 20:55.
Also for St. Marys, Mitchell O'Vell finished in 19:59, Ryan Brennen finished in 20:43, Jordan Agosti finished in 22:17, and Garrett Struble finished in 22:27.
For the Wolves, Andrew Swartwood finished in 21:44, Isaac Robbins finished in 24:08, Clayton Colson finished in 26:51, and Justin Hunt finished in 32:10.
In the girls' race, St. Marys Area's Adair Gennocro finished first in a new course record time of 18:18.
Coming in second was Kane's Kristin Boyer in 21:23, followed by St. Marys' Gina Schneider in 22:43 and Kane's Taylor Beimel. The Lady Dutch took the next three spots, as Shelby Schreiber, Alexis Hanes, and Allie Wonderling were fifth, sixth, and seventh in times of 22:54, 24:47, and 25:37, respectively.
For the Lady Wolves, Savanna Anderson, Bettina Cherry, and Olivia Kumher were ninth, 11th, and 13 in times of 27:33, 28:29, and 84:24, respectively.
Also for St. Marys, Ashley Mertz finished in a time of 26:52, Rachel Schreiber finished in 27:43, and Casey Kline finished in 31:40.
Lone Ridgway runner Rachel Guyer came in 19th overall in a time of 22:47.
The St. Marys squads will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 2 as they travel to Brockway for a 4:15 p.m. meet that will also feature runners from DuBois Area and Ridgway.
