St. Marys Area girls' tennis team takes 7-2 win over Bradford
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutchmen girls' tennis team beat the Bradford Lady Owls 7-2 on Thursday afternoon in a match played at St. Marys Area High School. In first singles, St. Marys' Amy Orr won her match 6-4, 6-3 against Emily Hardy. In second singles, SMA's Mary Rosman defeated Colleen Douglas 6-0, 6-1. At third singles, SMA's Marta Vega went undefeated this season, beating Alyssa McGraw 6-0, 6-1. In fourth singles, St. Marys' Aubrey Wiesner won her match 6-0, 6-0 against Sara James. In fifth singles, Danielle McCoy lost a tough match against Bradford's Danbee Kim 5-7, 5-7. In first doubles, the St. Marys duo of Amy Orr and Mary Rosman defeated Jordan Taylor and Colleen Douglas 8-2. In second doubles, SMA's Marta Vega and Aubrey Wiesner won their match against Nicole Henderson and Skye Graves 8-0. In third doubles, Danielle McCoy and Megan McCoy lost a tough match against Bradford's Zowe-Orczeck and Shelby Kinney 7-8. In fourth doubles, St. Marys Area's Becky Hanes and Rachel Ehrensberger finished off the season with an 8-1 victory over Amelia Fowler and Sarah Potter. "The girls played very hard and did very well playing in their final regular-season match," said St. Marys Area coach Sue Lepovetsky. "The girls are now looking forward to playing in the District 9-AA team final against Elk Catholic on Monday at Memorial Park, with the match getting under way at 2:30 p.m.," Lepovetsky added. The senior players and their parents were also honored during senior night festivities at Thursday afternoon's match. "Congratulations to all the senior girls who participated in playing tennis for St. Marys Area: Mary, Rachel, Becky and Stephanie and Marta," Lepovetsky said. With the win, the Lady Dutch finished their regular season with a 10-2 record.
