St. Marys Area gymnasts defeat Altoona squad

The St. Marys Area gymnastics squad defeated the Altoona Lions by a 126.0250 to 121.0 score Wednesday in a meet held at the St. Marys Area Middle School.
“The team did extremely well. I was very pleased with everyone’s performances on all of the events,” said St. Marys coach Irene McCandless.
“The team is definitely moving in the right direction. I am hoping we can keep the momentum up and continue to be a competitive team,” she added.
In the vault, St. Marys took the top four spots as Molly Eshbach was first with a 9.0, followed by Justin Huey 8.600, Michaela Sorg 8.250 and Megan Longhi 8.200. Abby Wittman finished with an 8.0750, good for eighth place.
In the uneven bars, Justin Huey took first with a 7.350. Altoona’s Hannah Mulhern was second with a 7.2750. Molly Eshbach was third with a 7.200, with Aubree McKinney of Altoona taking fourth with a 7.0250. Other St. Marys scores were Michaela Sorg 6.950, Megan Longhi 6.8750 and Abby Wittman 6.2250.
Abby Wagner of Altoona took first in the balance beam. Megan Longhi of the Dutch took second with a 7.900. Mackenzie Neureiter of the Dutch was third with a 7.8750. Mulhern of Altoona was fourth with a 7.8250. Other St. Marys scores were Michaela Sorg 7.650, Molly Eshbach 7.600 and Bobbi Fox 7.100.
Molly Eshbach of St. Marys and Hannah Mulhern of Altoona tied for first in the floor exercise with scores of 8.4250. Third place went to Michaela Sorg of the Dutch with an 8.0750, with Megan Longhi of the Dutch taking fourth with an 8.050. Other St. Marys scores were Mackenzie Neureiter 8.0250 and Abby Wittman 6.900.
St. Marys gymnasts scored the following in exhibition: Bobbi Fox 6.45 in the vault; Mackenzie Neureiter 7.9 in the vault and 3.55 on the uneven bars; Abby Wittman 6.675 in the balance beam; Laurel Pierotti 2.925 in the balance beam; and Justin Huey 7.1 on floor exercise.
In the all-around, Molly Eshbach of the Dutch was first with a 32.225 total. Altoona’s Hannah Mulhern was second with a 31.625 total. Third place went to Megan Longhi of the Dutch with a 31.025 total, with Michaela Sorg of the Dutch taking fourth with a 30.925 total.
St. Marys returns to action Saturday when they take part in the Moon Invitational at Moon Township. The event is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start.
