The St. Marys Area cross country teams played host to Bradford and DuBois Central Catholic on Tuesday afternoon.
The Dutchmen improved to 3-1after beating Bradford by a 22-33 score and DuBois Central Catholic 17-46. The Lady Dutch improved to 3-0 with a 25-32 win over Bradford. DuBois Central Catholic did not field a girls' team.
"All the runners performed well today," said St. Marys coach Stan Foster. "Congratulations to the Bradford squads for a good meet. We had some good wins today, but it is early in the season and we have a lot of work ahead of us."
In the St. Marys versus Bradford boys' race, Gideon Woelfel of St. Marys Area won the event with a time of 17:11. Aziz Yousif of Bradford was second in 17:38. Dutchman Alec Foster was third in 17:53, followed by his teammate Dylan Shields in 18:23. Rounding out the top five was Bradford's Alex Fair in 18:43. St. Marys' Austin Frey was sixth in 19:20, followed by Bradford's Branden Skaggs in seventh in 19:24. Eighth was K.O. of St. Marys, while Bradford's Andrew Scanlan and Anthony Uhl were ninth and tenth in 19:43 and 19:50, respectively.
In the St. Marys versus DuBois Central Catholic boys' race, Woelfel, Foster and Shields placed first through third, respectively. DCC's Paul Skraba was fourth in 18:54. Frey and K.O. were fifth and sixth. Finishing ninth through 11th were DCC runners Dan O'Conner, Duncan Park and Connor Park in 21:35, 22:06 and 23:53, respectively.
Also for the Dutchmen, Nate McFadden finished in 19:57, Mitchell O'Vell in 21:04, and Jordan Agosti in 22:00.
The girls' race saw St. Marys' Adair Gennocro taking first in 19:12. Her teammate Sloan Foster was second in 21:06, while Kaley Williams was third in 21:39. Bradford runners took the next three positions as Mackenzie Roice, Kacy Huston and Sarah Eaton were fourth, fifth and sixth in 22:13, 22:59 and 23:12, respectively. St. Marys' Gina Schneider was seventh in 23:25, while Bradford's Ashley Colosimo and Kristen Gardner were eighth and ninth in 23:43 and 24:02, respectively. St. Marys' Lexi Hanes finished in 12th place in 27:26.
Also for the Lady Dutch, Ashley Mertz finished in 28:50, followed by Casey Kline 29:00, Rachel Schreiber 29:11, and Cassie Wonderling 29:20.
The St. Marys squads return to action on Saturday when they travel to Altoona to compete in the Altoona Invitational.
"We are looking forward to some record performances this weekend at the Altoona Invite," Foster said.
Both the St. Marys girls' and boys' junior high teams came in second to Bradford's squads. The girls lost 26-31, while the boys lost 25-31.
In the junior high girls' race, Bradford's Riley Crissman took the win in 14:28. St. Marys' Shelby Schreiber was second in 14:35, followed by her teammate Brooke Lennox in 14:43. Bradford's Emily Little and Arianna Brien were fourth and fifth in 15:02 and 15:47, respectively. Sixth was St. Marys' Allie Wonderling in 15:48. Angel Hutchings of Bradford was seventh in 16:11, while St. Marys' Rachel Caretti was eighth in 16:19. Bradford's Hannah McAvoy was ninth in 16:28. St. Marys' Dorian Tamburlin was twelfth in 18:41.
In the junior high boys' race, Bradford's Tyler Nuzzo took the win in 12:12, followed by his teammate Mitchell Faulkner in 12:23. St. Marys' Angelo Geitner was third in 12:36. Fourth was Conner Vecellil of Bradford in 12:39. St. Marys' Joe Guido and Ryan Brennen were fifth and sixth in 13:44 and 13:53, respectively. Seventh was Bradford's Noah Wittenmore in 13:59. St. Marys' Mitchell Schreiber, Damen Krise, and Zeph Woelfel were eighth, ninth and tenth in 14:10, 14:21 and 14:24, respectively. Bradford's Riley Crissman was eleventh in 14:28.
Also for the Dutch, Garrett Struble finished in 15:12, Cameron Resch 20:00, Justin Berk 20:10, Derek Woelfel 20:24 and Paul Lenze 21:22.
