St. Marys Legion improves to 6-0 with win over Bradford

The St. Marys Legion baseball team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 5-2 victory over the Bradford Legion Friday night at Berwind Park.
Ben Daghir went the distance for the St. Marys squad, as he scattered eight hits while striking out 13.
St. Marys had seven hits in the contest, led by Ricky Pearsall’s three-for-three night with a triple, a double and a single. Jordan Weinzierl doubled while Kevin Hoy, Eric Wehler and Nate Geist all singled.
“Ricky (Pearsall) had a good night at the plate, which he has been doing all season,” said St. Marys manager Fran Pasi.
“Ben (Daghir) pitched a good game for us, keeping Bradford off-balance all night. He finished with 13 strikeouts,” added Pasi.
Bradford went down in order in the top half of the first inning. Pearsall led off the home half of the inning with a triple. He stole home to give St. Marys the 1-0 lead.
The second inning found Bradford going down in order. Wehler led off the home half of the inning with a single. He moved to third on a single by Geist. Wehler scored on an infield out. A double by Pearsall scored Geist to give St. Marys the 3-0 lead.
Bradford left two men on base in the top of the third inning. In the home half of the inning, Ryan Uhl reached base on an error. A double by Weinzierl scored Uhl. With one out, a sacrifice fly to left by Wehler scored Weinzierl, giving St. Marys the 5-0 lead.
A home run by Stephen Wilber of Bradford in the top of the fourth made the score 5-1. St. Marys left a man on base in their half of the inning.
Bradford added another run in the top of the fifth on a double and two singles, making the score 5-2. St. Marys left one man on base in the bottom of the inning.
Each team left a runner stranded in the sixth inning.
Bradford left a man on base in the top of the seventh inning as St. Marys recorded the 5-2 victory.
St. Marys will play host to the Kane Legion Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. at Berwind Park.
