St. Marys Legion rallies to beat Bradford 5-4

The St. Marys Legion baseball team took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series against the Bradford squad in the Elk County Legion Baseball League by defeating Bradford 5-4 last night at Berwind Park.
The second game of the series will be played tonight at 5:30 at the Mt. Jewett field.
In last night’s game, St. Marys collected seven hits. Ben Daghir had a double and a single, while Luke Daghir doubled. Ricky Pearsall, Kevin Hoy, Jordan Weinzierl and Luke Nicklas all singled.
Ben Daghir started on the mound for St. Marys and went six innings, giving up five hits, walking three and striking out six. Jordan Weinzierl worked the last inning, giving up two hits, hitting one batter and striking out one.
Bradford scored a run in the top of the first on two hits. St. Marys left a man on base in their half of the inning.
Bradford made the score 3-0 with two runs in the top of the second. Luke Daghir doubled with one out. He scored on a single by Nate Geist to make the score 3-1.
The third inning saw Bradford leave two runners stranded. In the home half of the inning, Ben Daghir led off with a double. With one out, Ryan Uhl walked. With two outs, Eric Wehler walked and both Daghir and Uhl scored on errors as St. Marys tied the game at 3-all.
Bradford took the lead by scoring a run in the fourth. St. Marys answered as Nicklas led off with a single, then Pearsall singled. With one out, Hoy singled, scoring Nicklas to tie the game at 4-all.
Bradford left a man on base in the fifth inning, while St. Marys went in order. Bradford went down in order in the sixth. St. Marys left a man on base in the home half of the inning.
Bradford left the bases loaded in the top of the seventh. With one out in the home half of the inning, Wehler was hit by a pitch. He stole second. Luke Daghir reached base on an error, allowing Wehler to score the winning run as St. Marys won 5-4.
Wilcox defeated Fox Township 12-3 in the other semifinal series last night.
