A 77-year-old St. Marys man died early Saturday morning in a fire at 523 Brusselles St., St. Marys.
A report filed by Trooper Robert J. Southern of the Ridgway-based state police confirmed the death of James L. Robbins in the blaze which reportedly broke out shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18.
His wife, Joan M. Robbins, 69, escaped the blaze and was reportedly transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital. Sources familiar with the situation confirmed Saturday night that she was being treated for second degree burns but had also suffered from severe smoke inhalation.
Reports indicate the fire broke out on the first floor however the cause of the fire has not been confirmed. Bill Kraus, fire chief at Crystal Fire Department in St. Marys confirmed that the state fire marshal was investigating.
The damage is estimated at $100,000.
