St. Marys Minor Softball Stars fall to DuBois 10-9

The St. Marys Little League Softball Minor League All-Stars put up a good fight, but ultimately fell to DuBois 10-9 on Thursday evening in a game that saw the lead change four times.
Rebekka Bauer worked all six innings for St. Marys, giving up eight hits, walking eight and striking out eight. DuBois' Molly Nosker also went the distance, giving up six hits, walking three and striking out 14.
Leading St. Marys in hits was Josie Smith with a triple and single. Sydney Eckert and Madison Legrys each had two singles. For DuBois, Morgan Henry and Mikayla Donaldson each had a double and a single. Brittany Newell, Abbey Petterati, Abby Lecker and Nosker each had singles.
St. Marys started off strong, with Eckert singling and scoring on a single by Legrys. A triple by Smith scored Legrys, and Smith later scored on a passed ball to put St. Marys up 3-0. St. Marys' early momentum then ran out as the next three batters went down in order. DuBois answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Nosker started things off with a single and scored on a fielder's choice. With two outs, Ayla Arrington walked and later scored on a passed ball. Ashley Wruble was hit by a pitch, and Emma Reed and Maddie Smith walked to load the bases; however, Chelsea DeSalve was thrown out at first to end the inning with St. Marys up 3-2.
St. Marys went down in order in the top of the second, and DuBois pulled ahead for the first time in the bottom half of the inning. Locker started off with a single and later scored on a passed ball. With two outs, Henry singled and Arrington walked, and both later scored on passed balls to put DuBois ahead 5-3. Wruble walked but was left on base as Ally Andrulonis struck out to end the inning.
St. Marys cut into DuBois' lead in the top of the third inning. With one out, Legrys singled and was able to score on an error to make the score 5-4; however, St. Marys' next two batters went down in order to end the top of the inning. DuBois' batters also went down in order in the bottom half of the inning.
St. Marys pulled ahead again in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs. Rebekka Bauer started things off by reaching base on a walk and scored by narrowly avoiding the tag at home on a fielder's choice hit by Gerber. Gerber also reached base on the play and later scored on a passed ball. With one out, Schlimm was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a passed ball. With two outs, Eckert and Legrys both walked and scored on a passed ball and error, respectively, to put St. Marys up 9-5. Smith singled but was left stranded as Gabler grounded to first to end the top of the inning. In the bottom half of the inning, DuBois answered with five runs of their own to take the lead for the final time. Nosker walked and advanced on a single by Newell. Henry reached base on an error that also saw Nosker score. Newell scored on a fielder's choice that saw Arrington thrown out at first. Henry also later scored on a passed ball. Wruble reached base on a walk and was replaced by Lecker as a special pinch runner. With two outs, Smith walked and was hit home along with Lecker on a double by Donaldson; however, Donaldson was left stranded as Peters struck out to end the inning with DuBois up 10-9.
St. Marys went down in order in the top of the fifth inning. In the bottom half of the inning, DuBois tried to extend their lead. With one out, Pettenati singled to reach base and advanced on a double by Henry. However, with two outs, Pettenati was thrown out at home to end the inning. DuBois was able to hold their lead in the top of the sixth, sending St. Marys' batters down in order to end the game and eliminate St. Marys from the tournament.
DuBois will play Warren on Saturday at 4 p.m. at a site to be determined.
