February 26, 2013

Photos submitted by Kim Metzgar Pictured in the photo at right, is St. Marys native Father Kurt Belsole, OSB, of Saint Vincent Archabbey and the past rector of Saint Vincent Seminary. He is currently serving as Director of Liturgical Formation at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. He stands holding a Bavarian flag along with Zachary Povis, a seminarian from the Archdiocese of Saint Louis. They are holding the flag to recognize that Pope Benedict XVI is originally from Bavaria.

On Sunday, Pope Benedict XVI led the Angelus, a Roman Catholic devotion to Jesus, from his studio window before an estimated crowd of 200,000. This marked the last time he will lead the devotion as Pope; after an eight-year Pontificate, he is stepping down due to health reasons and will officially retire at 8 p.m. Thursday.
