In an effort to give back to the local community, the St. Marys Pharmacy/Home Medical has chosen to become a major sponsor as part of the 2011 Elk County Relay for Life, a program of the American Cancer Society (ACS).
As part of this venture, St. Marys Pharmacy (SMP) recently donated $1,000 to the American Cancer Society. In addition, the business also established its own Relay for Life team.
SMP Relay Captain Kari Ryan announced the businesses' sponsorship of the event during the March 8 monthly meeting of ACS Relay teams.
"Team SMP is very excited to be a part of this organization and is very eager to begin raising money," Ryan said. "The team consists of employees of SMP/Home Medical and their family members."
This year's Relay for Life is set for Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June,11 at the Fox Township Community Park in Kersey. It will kick off at noon on Friday and conclude at noon on Saturday.
As part of their fundraising efforts, the group is currently selling DeLullo hoagie tickets. Group members have also organized a "Ladies' Night" event taking place Thursday, March 31 from 6-9 p.m. at the St. Boniface Elementary School cafeteria. Admission to the event is free.
"We are asking all women in the area who have their own small business and need a few hours out of the house to come on out and share what you do with the community," Ryan said.
