St. Marys Senior baseball stars advance to District 10 finals

The St. Marys Little League Baseball Senior all-stars advanced to the finals of the District 10 Tournament with a 10-3 victory over the Cameron County squad Monday afternoon at Berwind Park.
St. Marys will be off until Saturday when they play the winner of Wednesday’s Cameron County vs. DuBois game, which is the finals of the loser’s bracket. The site has yet to be determined for either game.
In Monday’s game, St. Marys had nine hits. Colton Lecker had a double and a single, while Brock McCullough had a triple and Jack Herzing two singles. Dalton Kline, Mitch Meyer, Quinn Cunningham and Shea Meyer all singled.
St. Marys used three pitchers in the contest. Mitch Meyer started and worked four innings, giving up two hits, walking one and striking out five. Ben Cortina worked one inning, walking one. Jack Herzing worked two innings, walking one and striking out five.
Devin Mason started on the mound for Cameron County and worked 3 1/3 innings, giving up six hits, walking four and striking out three. Luke Newhouse worked two innings, giving up one hit and walking one. Tyler Wigfield worked 2/3 of an inning, giving up two hits and walking one.
St. Marys won the coin toss to be the home team for the game.
Cameron County left a man on base in the top half of the first inning. St. Marys scored a run in the home half of the inning when Dalton Kline singled and stole second. With one out, Herzing singled, scoring Kline as St. Marys led 1-0.
The second inning saw Devin Mason open with a double for Cameron. He was doubled off second when St. Marys second baseman Brock McCullough caught a line drive and threw to shortstop Dalton Kline for the double play. In the home half of the inning, Vince Jacob led off with a walk. Wes Brennen reached base on an error. Jacob would score on an overthrow at the plate. Shea Meyer walked and Todd Barnes reached base on an error to load the bases. Kline walked to score Brennen and give St. Marys the 3-0 lead.
Cameron scored a run in the third inning on two walks and a single. Jacob walked in the home half of the inning with one out. Shea Meyer singled to right field, scoring Jacob as St. Marys led 4-1.
Cameron left a man on base in the fourth. In the home half of the inning, Kline was hit by a pitch. McCullough tripled to score Kline. An infield single by Herzing scored McCullough as Herzing moved to second on an error. A single by Mitch Meyer scored Herzing. Meyer stole second and third, scoring on an error as he stole third and St. Marys took an 8-1 lead.
Cameron scored two runs on two walks, a hit batsman and a balk to make the score 8-3. St. Marys left two men on base in the fifth.
Cameron left the bases loaded in the sixth inning. In the home half of the inning, Mitchell O’Neill walked with two outs. He moved to second on a balk. An infield single by Cunningham sent O’Neill to third. Lecker singled to left, scoring both Cunningham and O’Neill, and moved to second on an error as St. Marys opened a 10-3 lead.
Cameron County left one man on base in the top of the seventh as St. Marys won the winner’s bracket of the District 10 Senior Tournament by a 10-3 score.
