During Monday's St. Marys City Council meeting Mayor Bob Howard confirmed the Aug. 23 closing of Giant Eagle and that a search for a replacement business is underway.
"Filling this void will be a very high priority of the city," Howard stated.
According to Howard, the city had already contacted perspective businesses to move into the location.
The city was made aware of the closing via an e-mail sent to Howard.
While presenting the manager's report, Dave Greene said he met with Sheryl Moore from West Penn Power about taking over the Access Road streetlights located in the Elk County Industrial Park.
The Elk County Industrial Development Authority (ECIDA) recently turned over the lights to the city as they are located on a city road.
