On Wednesday night Aaron Straub became the winningest boy's coach in District 9 history last evening when the Crusaders defeated the Bradford Owls for his 639th victory on the boys' side of coaching. Coach Straub also has 27 victories as the head coach of the Lady Crusaders. Straub took over the title as the winningest coach from Don Stemmerick of Union High School.
Coach Straub is in his 29th season as the head coach of the Crusaders. He took over as the head coach at Elk County Catholic (Christian) in the 1982-83 season.
In his previous 28 years as head coach, the Crusaders have never had a losing season. Coach Straub's 2005-06 squad finished the season undefeated at 33-0, winning the PIAA Class A State Championship.
Straub's teams have won 20 or more games in 19 of the 28 seasons.
"I was able to achieve this only because of the great people we have in our program," noted Straub. "We have some of the best coaches around and have had many great players. We have always had a great following as our fans are some of the best.
"It has been a lot of fun coaching the Crusaders, but without the cooperation of the players, parents, coaches and fans, this record would not have been possible."
