Supervisors approve purchase of new rescue truck

October 3, 2012

The Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department is hoping to debut their new rescue truck during the township's bicentennial next summer if plans go accordingly following the Fox Township Supervisors' unanimous approval for the purchase of the truck during their regular monthly meeting Wednesday evening.
According to Fox Twp. Fire Chief Scott Surra, the new apparatus costs $628,335.21.
"Basically we designed the whole thing," Surra said referring to the department's 7- or 8-member truck committee, which met with the truck builder last week to finalize plans.
Surra noted the fire department is receiving a rebate of nearly $100,000 off the list price through the COSTAR program, the state's cooperative purchasing program administered by the state Department of General Services' (DGS) Bureau of Procurement. COSTAR provides registered local public procurement units as well as state-affiliated entities and suppliers a tool to find and do business with one another effectively through the use of a contract established by DGS.
The new truck includes a state-of-the-art rescue tool system worth $81,000. The truck is built around the system, which is priced more than originally estimated. Township secretary Kathy Dowie stated the tool system is very much needed, as the current rescue tools are very outdated and need to be replaced.
