Supervisors award bid for paving project

April 22, 2011

The Jay Township Supervisors opened bids during their recent meeting for a paving project that will take place later this year along a portion of the Caledonia Road.
Bids were received from three different companies. According to the supervisors, bids were submitted in the amounts of $219,569.80 from Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc.; $187,168 from HRI, Inc.; and $191,827.80 from New Enterprise. The supervisors unanimously approved awarding the bid to HRI, which was the lowest responsible bidder.
Supervisor Murray Lilley noted that PennDOT will come and inspect all of the cross drains along that portion of the roadway prior to the start of the project.
"They need to make a determination if we need to replace that cross drain or headwall. Now's the time to get it done," Lilley said.
Lilley indicated that PennDOT also assisted with the bid process for the township.
"There is a definite completion date of the end of August," Lilley said. "The project can start June 1 and end by Aug. 31."
He added that the road will need to be closed while the paving work is taking place.
