The Fox Township Supervisors voted on several items during their Tuesday evening meeting including making a counter proposal to a mining company and updating its oil and gas ordinance.
The supervisors approved a motion to offer a counter proposal to Amfire Mining Co., based out of Latrobe, who requested the township renew their agreement to continue to mine through Bennett Road. They are currently stripping through the road.
According to Supervisor Mike Keller, the company is offering the township $1/ton on materials being removed from the site. The company also receives compensation if the road is closed due to mining.
The township has had an agreement with Amfire for several years, however the supervisors agreed the document needs reviewed and updated. The current agreement expires in June.
This is the same type of agreement the township had with a different company which worked through Johnny Kyler Road.
