Thomas W. Wittman, 82, of 1852 Bucktail Rd., St. Marys, died on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born June 5, 1931 in St. Marys, a son of the late William and Philomena Knight Wittman.
On Oct. 1, 1955 in St. Marys Church, he married Mary Margaret Wittman, who survives.
Tom was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Queen of the World Church.Â He graduated from SMAHS, Class of 1949.Â He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army.Â He retired from Industrial Steel after many years of service and was a member of the K of C.Â He enjoyed hunting, ï¬shing and carpentry.Â He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of more than 58 years, Mary Margaret Wittman, he is survived by three sons, Robert "Egg" Wittman and his wife Sylvia "Cookie" of St. Marys, Jerome Wittman and his wife Sara of Weedville, and Alex "Fred" Wittman of St. Marys; three grandchildren, Willis Wittman and his wife Heather, Krista Wittman and Jesse Wittman; one great-grandson due in February; and a sister, Rosemary, Mrs. James Fritz of St. Marys.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard "Dick" Wittman on Jan. 21, 2010.Â He was also preceded in death by a brother, Willis Wittman, and a sister, Aurelia Luhr.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas W. Wittman will be celebrated at the Queen Of The World Church, 134 Queens Rd., St. Marys, on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014Â at 10 a.m. with Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, as celebrant.
A Military Service will be conducted by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Burial will be in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of ï¬owers, memorial contributions may be made to Pluta Cancer Center, 125 Red Creek Dr., Rochester, N.Y. 14623.
