Thyroid health important year-round

January 31, 2012

While January may have been designated as Thyroid Awareness Month, the thyroid, a small, butterfly-shaped gland located in the base of the neck just below the Adam's apple, is important to individuals' health year-round.
According to information provided by Elk Regional Health Center, "although relatively small, the thyroid gland influences the function of many of the body's most important organs, including the heart, brain, liver, kidneys, and skin. Ensuring that the thyroid glad is healthy and functioning properly is important to the body's overall well-being."
