Tire collections registered through Great American Cleanup of PA

March 30, 2011

Elk County recycling/solid waste coordinator Bekki Titchner announced during the Elk County Solid Waste Authority meeting on Tuesday afternoon that the group has registered its three upcoming tire collections through the Great American Cleanup of PA.
The authority had previously discussed the matter during their February meeting; however, at that time they were uncertain as to the dates and times that the collections would be held.
On Tuesday, Titchner indicated that the collections would take place in St. Marys on Saturday, April 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking area of the electronics recycling center at the Stackpole Complex; in Jones Township on Thursday, April 21 from 12 to 5 p.m. at the Community Center in Wilcox; and in Ridgway Borough on Monday, April 25 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the borough fill area behind Cenni's Beverage.
Tires must be removed from rims and only passenger or RV tires will be accepted. Additionally, there is a limit of no more than eight tires per household. Individuals looking to dispose of more than eight tires are asked to contact Titchner in advance at 776-5373.
"What we'll do when people call if they do have a large number of tires, we have our events registered with the state and we can give them a number to use when they take tires over [to the landfill], but I just don't want to get involved in the offloading of trailers full of tires," Titchner said.
