April 27, 2012

With summer drawing closer and vacation season along with it, law enforcement officials are asking the public to take simple precautions in safeguarding their home against burglary.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, more than two billion burglaries occurred in the U.S. in 2009, with an estimated $4.6 billion in lost property. Of those, nearly three-fourths were residential, with the average dollar loss-per-burglary $2,096.
St. Marys City Police Officer Brad Harshbarger said that for those preparing for a getaway, there are a number of precautionary actions that can help maintain the sanctity of their home and ensure all valuables inside are safe and sound when they return.
