Vernon R. Kear, 75, of Poplar Road, Weedville died Sunday, Jan. 12 at DuBois Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born July 21, 1938 in Weedville, son of George and Beatrice Champion Kear Sr. He lived in New Hampshire for 40 years and returned to the Valley in 1999.
In 1958 he married Jeanette Lafleur who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Barbara (Blaine) Eaton of Woodstock, Canada, Bonita (Robert) Foote of Peterborough, N.H., and Bruce Kear of Jaffrey, N.H.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur Kear of Weedville and Herbert Kear of Astor, Fla.; and two sisters, Martha Kear of Weedville and Connie (Burton) Kunes of Weedville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Priscilla Scusa and Violet Town; and three brothers, Barry, Fred and George Kear Jr.
He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a machinist for 37 years with New Hampshire Ball Bearing in New Hampshire, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Weedville United Methodist Church and an avid hunter.
A funeral service will be held for Vernon R. Kear on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. at the Weedville United Methodist Church with Pastor Lola J. Turnbull. There will be no visitation. The family will be receiving friends from noon to 1 p.m. Internment will follow at Morningside Cemetery in DuBois.
The family suggests memorials to the Weedville United Methodist Church.
