Lady Crusaders beat Clearfield 66-52 in D9 League action

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team opened District 9 League play with a 66-52 victory over the Clearfield Lady Bisons Monday night at Clearfield.
The Lady Crusaders used a 22-14 scoring advantage in the third quarter to come away with the victory.
“That was a good road win for us,” said ECCHS coach Ken Pistner.
“We got a nice contribution from our bench tonight and had some good post play,” said the coach.
“We need to play four quarters,” commented Pistner.
“It will be nice to play our first home game Wednesday when we meet a good Bradford team,” added coach Pistner.
Kirstie Pistner led the Lady Crusader scoring attack with 18 points on seven field goals and a four for six night from the foul line. Kaitlyn Geci added 16 points on three twos, two threes and a four for four night from the foul line.
Clearfield was led by Jayme Ryan with 17 points on three twos, one three and an eight for eight night from the foul line. Amber Byerly scored 15 points on seven field goals and a one for two night from the foul line.
In the first period of play, the Lady Crusaders outscored the Lady Bisons by a 12-7 margin.
Both teams scored 12 second period points as Elk Catholic held a 24-19 halftime lead.
The third period found Elk Catholic outscoring Clearfield by a 22-14 margin to increase their lead to 46-33 with eight minutes remaining.
Elk outscored the Lady Bisons 20-19 in the final quarter making the final score 66-52 in favor of the Lady Crusaders.
 
Game notes
The Lady Crusaders are now 3-0 overall. They are 2-0 in the Allegheny Mountain League and 1-0 in the District 9 League.

Elk Catholic returns to action Wednesday when they play host to the Bradford Lady Owls in a District 9 League game. Junior varsity starts at 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow.

JV’s win
The Elk Catholic junior varsity squad defeated the Lady Bisons 37-34 in the preliminary game.
Elk took a 9-8 first period lead and outscored Clearfield 7-5 in the second period for a 16-13 halftime lead.
The Lady Bisons outscored the Lady Crusaders 10-8 in the third period. In the final quarter Elk outscored Clearfield 13-11 to win the game 37-34.
