 Approximately 109 SSMSE kindergartners presented their annual class play on Thursday afternoon for fourth and fifth grade classes. The group will perform the play twice today, once for first through third graders and again for a special parents performance.
By Amy Cherry Daily Press Staff South St. Marys Street Elementary kindergartners were celebrating America as part of the class’s annual play.
Decked out in red and blue USA t-shirts, students sang and danced about America. In conjunction with the patriotic play, kindergartners collected items for the Letters From Home Program. The play began with five students, including Kayla Burns, Madeline Bowes, Abigail Mattivi, Cain Pfoutz and Sam Dush, providing an introduction of the show. The group then sang “Entertain You.” Another five students, including Kolby Bauer, Jared Lenze, Britney Shaw, Cassandra Minnick and Delana Spong, led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. A total of 109 students were featured on stage as each class performed a separate song. Mrs. Meeker’s class was the first to perform as they sang “This is America.” They were followed by Miss Hanes’ class with “Thankful for the USA”. Next was Mrs. Gorman’s class singing “Grand Ole Flag.” Performing “Yankee Doddle Dandy” was Mrs. Beimel’s class, followed by Mrs. Bauer’s class singing “This Land is Your Land.” Each class featured a sign carrier introducing the group to the audience. Parading across the stage with the star shaped signs were Trevor Adams, Tessa Grotziner, Jay Ehrensberger, Chloe Eckert and Scott Walters. The play ended with the entire group singing “We Love Our Flag.” Thursday afternoon’s performance was for SSMSE fourth and fifth grade classes. Kindergartners will perform the play twice today, once for first through third graders and again for a special parents performance. Assisting with this year’s kindergarten play were Mrs. Bertolasio, Ms. Cassels, Mrs. James, Miss Lenze, Mr. Moore and Miss Woelfel.
