Area students benefit from community-based scholarships |

 Students from St. Marys Area, Elk County Catholic, Johnsonburg and Ridgway high schools received a total of 77 scholarships in 2008 from the Elk County Community Foundation.

The Elk County Community Foundation awarded 77 scholarships to local students this year, totaling $69,855 in scholarship funds. Twenty scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors from St. Marys Area students, 19 were awarded to Elk County Catholic students, 13 to Ridgway students, eight to Johnsonburg students, two to Kane students, three to Brockway Area students and two to DuBois Area students. Post-graduation scholarships were awarded earlier this month. Brian McQuone and Amy Brehm received the Joseph A. Williams Memorial Medical Scholarship while Katie Flynn and Kathleen Newell received the Michele A. Campbell Memorial Nursing Scholarship and Lindsay Bish received the Griener/Roof Memorial Law Scholarship.

Keebler Memorial Scholarship to Abigail Mosier • Martha C. Selle Scholarship to Nicole Freeburg • Pearl Llewellyn Nursing Scholarship to Rachel Sorg • Straub Brewery Inc. Scholarship to Amanda Sidelinger, Shawna Buerk and Elizabeth Dippold • Christopher Forster Memorial Scholarship to Carly Frank • Bev Hogan Memorial Nursing Scholarship to Rachel Sorg • Sara K.
