Plans underway on community recycling center

The Elk County Solid Waste Authority is in the process of putting the finishing touches on a building that is set to become its community recycling center. The building, located in the Stackpole Complex in St. Marys, is being rented from North Central.

CFD responds to early morning structure fire

Members of the Crystal Fire Department were called out to 543 Walnut St., at 3:04 a.m. Friday July 4th for a reported structure fire with flames showing. On arrival firemen found a large residence fully involved in flames. Firemen established a water supply and attacked the fire. The fire was controlled in about an hour but many hot spots remained to be extinguished by the dept. The home was completely destroyed by fire. The home was being renovated at the time and no one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Crystal Fire Department and the St, Marys Police. Firemen were assisted by the Fox Township, Ridgway, Johnsonburg Fire Depts., as well as the St. Marys Police and Ambulance service. Firemen were back in service at 8:30 a.m.
