By Becky Polaski During Monday night's City Council meeting Councilman Tom Farley asked City Manager David Greene to have St. Marys City Police Chief Todd Caltagarone look into a situation at the corner of Rightmeyer and Mark Streets.
Farley explained that he had received complaints about a red pickup truck parked close to the intersection, making it difficult for other drivers to see as they approached the stop sign on Mark Street. "Maybe the truck is legally parked within the specified distance from the stop sign," noted Farley. "This individual complained to me that perhaps something could be done about it." Farley added that the individual who alerted him about the situation had come close to being hit while trying to travel through that intersection because he did not have proper sight distance because of where the truck was parked and had to go out into the intersection to be able to see. Councilman Sean Gabler informed Council members that he had traveled through the intersection earlier that day and noted that the truck was legally parked. "It is parked very close to the stop sign and where the issue comes in is if you're trying to get around the truck and somebody hangs a right onto Rightmeyer, you're over in their lane right near that stop sign," said Gabler. "However, the No Parking sign, he's parked right at it. It says it has no parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. with an arrow pointing up north on Mark Street. He's legally parked according to that sign. That sign needs moved." Additionally, Councilman Rick Gabler added that he had received complaints from a resident on Rightmeyer Street regarding an individual that recently cut down trees and has left them blocking the sidewalk on that street for close to the past three weeks. "I have not witnessed it, but I had a complaint from a citizen today," said Gabler.
