By JIM MULCAHY Daily Press staff The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch tennis team improved to 4-3 on the season as they defeated the Clearfield Lady Bisons by an 8-1 score Wednesday at Clearfield.
At first singles, Kelsey Hansen of the Lady Dutch, won easily over Jenny Miller 6-1, 6-2. At second singles, Emily VonGunden of Clearfield, defeated Brandi Meyer 6-2, 6-2. Rachel Walker of the Lady Dutch won in three sets, 4-6, 7-5 14-12 (tiebreaker) over Madison Sopic at third singles. “Rachel played an excellent match today. She was down 3-0 in both sets and pushed it to a third set tiebreaker,” said Lady Dutch coach Sue Lepovetsky. At fourth singles, Jamie VanAlstine of the Lady Dutch won her match 6-1, 6-2 over Sierra Grice. At fifth singles, SMA’s Mary Roseman won her match 6-1, 6-3 over Heather Learish. SMA’s Kelsey Hansen and Brandi Meyer, playing first doubles, defeated Jenny Miller and Emily VonGuden 8-6. At second doubles, Rachel Walker and Allison Shields of the Lady Dutch won their match 6-2 over Kristen Mckenzie and Angela Moore. This match was shortened due to the fact that St. Marys had already won team event. At third doubles, St. Marys’ Jamie VanAlstine and Chloe Stevens won their match 8-2 over Tori Hallstrom and Jenna Cowder. At fourth doubles, Mary Roseman and Kelly Dietz of the Lady Dutch, after being down 3-5, came back and won by an 8-6 score over Hillary Buck and Suzanne Colesar. “It was a much better match played today,” said coach Lepovetsky. St. Marys travels to Brockway this afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. match with the Lady Rovers.
