By JIM MULCAHY Daily Press staff The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch football team will take on the Clearfield Bisons Friday night for the District 9 Class AAA championship.
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the Frank J. Varischetti Field in Brockway. At least one of these teams have been involved in three of the last four District 9 AAA title games. They met for the title in 2005. In 2006, Bradford met Clearfield while in 2007 Bradford met St. Marys. The Dutchmen of coach Joe Schlimm will bring a 6-4 record into Friday’s game. St. Marys picked up wins over Lewistown 36-0, Bald Eagle Area 21-0, Huntingdon 21-9, Penns Valley 28-0, Indian Valley 44-0 and Philipsburg-Osceola 42-13. The Dutch had lost to Bellefonte 24-20, Tyrone 44-7, Central Martinsburg 28-27 and Clearfield 29-6 last Friday night. The Bisons enter the game with an 8-2 record. Clearfield has defeated Philipsburg-Osceola 35-0, Indian Valley 35-20, Tyrone 35-34, Lewistown 56-25, Bald Eagle Area 41-6, Penns Valley 56-28, Central Martinsburg 49-21 and St. Marys 29-6 last Friday. Clearfield losses have come to DuBois 35-28 and Huntingdon 33-7. The leading rushers for the Dutch are Kevin Hoy with 595 yards (5.89 average), Shane Krise 551(6.33 average) and Mitchell Straub 521 (6.28 average). Quarterback Greg Simchick is 52 of 95 for 66 yards and four touchdowns. Clearfield is led by Isiah Morgan with 1,416 rushing yards for an average of 7.95 yards per carry. Quarterback Jarrin Campman has rushed for 913 yards, 5.57 average, and is 86 for 136 in the passing department good for 1,140 yards and 10 touchdowns. The winner of Friday’s game will meet the winner of the District 8 (Pittsburgh City League) next Friday or Saturday at a site in District 8.
