By Amy Cherry Daily Press Staff The SMASD Board of Directors approved the revision of the 2008-09 school calendar at its recent meeting.
Monday, March 2, 2009 and Wednesday, April 15 will be utilized as a makeup-days for the Dec. 19 and Jan. 7 snow days. In addition Feb. 16, 2009 will be used as a makeup-day if needed. The following items were also approved at the meeting: Expulsion of one student until the end of the 2008-09 school year. Acceptance of the audit report of the Office of the Auditor General for the years ending June 30, 2003 and 2004. The following resolution was approved in conjunction with the motion. The President of the Board shall appoint the administrators to study the audit report, ascertain the facts relating to observations, exceptions and recommendations taken in the audit report and make a detailed written reply, with reference to year audited in the following form; page number, subject of criticism and answer to recommendation. The administration shall make its reply as soon as possible in order that the administration’s report, together with any exhibits, may be forwarded by the agency administration to the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Draft of the 2009 city tax office budget. Total budget for the county and school district will be $96,118.07. Donation of services by Joe Ginther Logging for the removal of 14 beech trees from district property on Oct. 21, 2008. The value of this service is $1,500. Approved low bids for the St. Marys Area Middle School’s HVAC replacement project as follows; $264,500 by Fred L. Burns of Shippenville for general construction, $419,708 by Allegheny Electric Service in St. Marys for electrical construction and $430,000 by C&C Sheet Metal, Inc. of Swoyersville for HVAC construction. Also submitting bids were Daghir Construction of St. Marys, Dave Kronenwetter of Kersey Tech Services, Inc. of Ridgway, Eshenaurs Fuels, Inc. of Harrisburg, Mazza Sheet Metal, Inc. of Olean, NY, Overdorf Mechanicals, Inc. of DuBois, Rabe Environmental Systems of Erie and Scobell Company of Erie. Recommed rejection of stage lighting equipment bids at SMAHS. The project will be rebid. Approval of the SMAHS Outdoor Club officers for 2008-09 including Jess Cogan, president, Dane Yetzer, vice-president, Patrick Watkavitch, secretary and Andrea Schatz, treasurer. Approval of field trips for SMAHS PMEA District Chorus trip from January 14-17, 2009 for seven students to travel to Collegiate Academy in Erie, SMAHS PMEA District Band trip from January 28-30, 2009 for five students to travel to Conneaut Lake High School and SMAHS DECA Club’s trip to Hershey for the state leadership conference on February 17-20 for 40 students. Approval of the Engineering Related Technology Survey course of study at SMAHS. Approval of personnel actions including leaves of absences, hiring of support personnel, supplemental contracts, substitute teachers, volunteers and student teachers.
