By Amy Cherry Daily Press Staff St. Marys Carbon Global Holdings, Inc. employees were recently recognized for Outstanding Performance in the area of Employee Safety as they logged approximately 754,560 hours without an employee incident which resulted in lost time at work.
Senior Risk Control Consultant Robert Kirchner of the PMA Insurance Group, the company’s workers compensation insurance carrier, along with representatives from Wells Fargo Insurance Service in Erie presented the Safety Award to local company representatives. “Over three quarters of a million Lost Time work hours is a significant accomplishment in the manufacturing environment,” according to St. Marys based Kirchner. “We congratulate the employees of St. Marys Carbon Global Holdings, Inc. on reaching this milestone.” The SMC Global Holdings, Inc. companies earning the award include St. Marys Carbon Company in St. Marys and Brookville, U.S. Resistor in St. Marys and SMC Powder Metallurgy in Galeton. The company’s Safety Committee, which is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, plays a key role in assuring the provision of a safe working environment for employees. St. Marys Carbon Company, is a privately held corporation which was founded in 1939. The company is a quality manufacturer of carbon graphite, electrographite, resin bonded graphite and metal graphite products. SMC Powder Metallurgy is also a privately held corporation, founded in 1965, and is a major supplier of custom metal parts to a diverse range of markets and applications. U.S. Resistor is a manufacturer of non-inductive special purpose and industrial resistors. The privately held company was purchased in 1992 with over 50 years experience in manufacturing resistors for various applications.
