By Amy Cherry
Staff Writer

State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Elk/Clearfield) visited students at St. Boniface Elementary School in Kersey during Catholic Schools Week.
As a catholic school alumni, having graduated from St. Catherine’s Elementary in DuBois and DuBois Central Catholic High School, Gabler spoke to the students about the benefits of a Catholic education. He pursued his studies at Bucknell University.
Students from first through fifth grades attended the gathering held in the school’s cafeteria.
Gabler posed several questions to students such as what they enjoy about their Catholic education and what they want to be when they grow up, in which students answers ranged from veterinarians, doctors, bakers and professional athletes.

St. Joseph’s Terrace, located at 45 Plum Street in Weedville, held an open house on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Area residents were invited to stop in for a tour of the 22-unit building.

According to St. Joseph’s Terrace Manager Victoria Baxter, anyone age 62 or older who is able to live independently and meets Federal income guidelines is eligible to live at St. Joseph’s Terrace. The facility accommodates couples as well as single residents.

“We do keep a waiting list,” Baxter said. “Right now it is very short but we do have a few people on it. We like to generate interest to keep people on the list and when we have an opening we try to fill it up right away.”

Baxter added that the first tenant moved into the building on June 1, 1999, and still lives there today.

“The location is wonderful,” Baxter said. “I think there are a lot of nice apartments available in St. Marys, but if people like the quietness of the country we are in a secluded area.”

Each apartment has a living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and closets. The building’s doors are also locked at all times for security purposes and residents are able to open the doors for visitors using their apartment telephones. Each apartment also has medical alerts that are set up for immediate response from the local ambulance service as well as smoke detectors and sprinkling systems.

Residents at St. Joseph’s Terrace are also able to bring pets and vehicles. The Area Transportation Authority provides residents with access to locations throughout the area as well as to St. Marys and DuBois. A grocery store, as well as several banks, are located nearby. Additionally, the Bennetts Valley Senior Center will soon be located adjacent to St. Joseph Terrace.

For more information, contact St. Joseph’s Terrace at 814-787–8772.
