By JIM MULCAHY Staff Writer The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to the Clearfield Area Lady Bisons Tuesday afternoon at Hyde.
At first singles, Clearfield’s Jenny Miller defeated Rachel Walker 6-3, 6-2. At second singles, SMA’s Allison Shields, playing a good match, defeated Madison Sopic 6-3, 6-3. Kirsten McKenzie of Clearfield defeated Brandi Meyer 6-4, 6-3 at third singles. At fourth singles, Chloe Stevens of the Lady Dutch lost her match 6-4, 3-6 and 7-10 in the third-set tiebreaker to Susie Colesar. At fifth singles, Mary Rosman of St. Marys lost 3-6, 6-0 (8-10) in a three-set tiebreaker to Bekah Greenland. At first doubles, Clearfield’s Jenny Miller and Madison Sopic defeated Rachel Walker and Brandi Meyer 8-4. Allison Shields and Mary Rosman of the Lady Dutch won their second doubles match by defeating Kirsten McKenzie and Susie Colesar 8-4. At third doubles, SMA’s Jamie VanAlstine and Chloe Stevens won their match 8-5 over Bekah Greenland and Jenna Cowder. At fourth doubles, Kelly Dietz and Hilary Brouse of St. Marys lost their match in a tiebreaker 8-8 (3-7) to Hilary Buck and Jenna Cowder. “Again today we had tiebreakers where the score could have gone either way but we came up on the losing end of it,” said St. Marys coach Sue Lepovetsky. “The only thing we can do is try to improve on our mistakes,” said the coach. St. Marys will have their first home meet on Thursday when they host Punxsutawney at 3:30 p.m. at the SMAHS courts.
