By Wayne A. Bauer Staff Writer The St. Marys Lady Dutch Tennis team improved to 4 and 3 on the season with an 8-1 victory over the Clearfield Lady Bison in a match held on Tuesday aftenroon at the St. Marys Area High School courts.
“The girls played very well this afternoon,” said Coach Sue Lepovetsky of the Lady Dutch. “The girls were not going to be denied today as they were in the first match against the Clearfield squad.” St. Marys won all five singles matches on Tuesday and three of the four doubles matches to record their fourth team victory of the season. Rachel Walker playing her best singles match of the season recorded a three set tie-breaker win over Clearfield’s Jenny Miller in the first singles. In second singles, Allison Shields of St. Marys, won her match easily over Madison Sopic by 6-1, 6-0 scores. Brandi Meyer of St. Marys, was successful in the third singles match as she defeated Clearfield’s Susie Colesar by 6-3, 6-2 scores. Chloe Stevens gave the Lady Dutch a 4-0 lead when she defeated Angela Moore 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth singles match. Jamie VanAlstine made it a clean sweep for the Lady Dutch in the singles when she defeated Bekah Greenland 6-1 and 6-0 in the fifth singles match. The only setback of the day for the Lady Dutch came in the first doubles when Rachel Walker and Brandi Meyer were defeated 8-4 by Jenny Miller and Madison Sopic. The second doubles team for St. Marys, Allison Shields and Mary Rosman won by a 8-2 score against Susie Colesar and Angela Moore. Chloe Stevens and Jamie VanAlstine picked up a victory for the Lady Dutch in the third doubles by a 8-2 score against Beka Greenland and Sierra Grice. The fourth doubles match also went to the St. Marys squad as Kelly Dietz and Erica Sorg won by and 8-5 score over Jenna Cowder and Hillary Beck. St. Marys will return to action on Thursday afternoon when they will play host to the Brockway Lady Rovers at 3:30 p.m.
