The Fox Township Supervisors discussed two zoning issues at their latest meeting.
The first of which the board approved a conditional use application from Rick Krishart to utilize the barn on his property, located along Squab Hollow Road in Kersey, to store re-claimed automobile parts. Krishart owns Rick’s Used Auto Parts. “I thought there would be more citizens from the area at the meeting,” said Supervisor Chairman Mike Keller. On Jan. 26, Krishart signed the contract drafted by the township which included some of the following conditions: limiting the number of wrecked vehicles on the property to five or less with vehicles having to be stored behind the barn and out of sight from the public road; not conducting sales or business transactions from the location and restricting the hours of operation at the location from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and keep the transporting of vehicles and parts to and from the storage facility to a minimum. In addition, the owner is not permitted to expand operations beyond the agreed upon terms. The issuing of the junkyard permit is on conditional terms. Krishart is required to submit a renewal application for a junkyard license for the property on an annual basis. “When this first happened my initial reaction was against it, but then I started reading the zoning ordinance and as long as there is listed criteria, we can’t deny the license as long as that person meets the criteria,” Supervisor Dave Mattiuz said. Keller added “this is exactly why we put a zoning ordinance into effect, to afford some control over the land. In this case it worked very well and the ordinance did exactly as we’d hope it would do.” Mattiuz added there is nothing the township can do in regards to the traffic along the road stating the supervisors trust Krishart to be a responsible businessman about it. In other business, Supervisor Randy Gradizzi said the new water tank at Fairview went out to bid. Permits are being secured with the township planning to start construction once the new season starts.
