Floyd W. Carr, 83, of 208 Garfield St., Ridgway, died on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Snyder Memorial Health Care Center in Marienville, following a brief illness.
He was born on Aug. 10, 1926, in Toby, son of the late John W. and Alice C. (Keller) Carr. He married Constance M. Strand on Dec. 15, 1949, who survives. He had resided in Ridgway for the last 61 years and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, a retired member of the Ridgway Fire Department-Capital City, and a past committee member of Boy Scout Troop 93. He had served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II having received the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Occupation Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star. He had been employed by Sylvania for 26 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by the following children, Rebecca M. Rice and her husband, Frank of Akron, Kenneth W. Carr and his wife, Joyce of Ridgway, Barbara E. Luchs and her husband, Thomas of Ridgway; 14 grandchildren, Daniel, Steven, Jeannie, Timothy, Kenneth, Carolyn, Katie Jo, Christopher, Nicholes, Corey, Thomas, Roshelle, Nathan and Seth; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry Carr and his wife, Marion of St. Marys, Donald Carr and his wife, Marlene of Ridgway, Elwin Carr and his wife, Charlene of St. Marys; three sisters, June Appenzeller and her husband, Warren of Jacobes, Joann Eckert of St. Marys and Arlene Prechtel of St. Marys; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Gerald, Francis, Bernard and Robert Carr; and two sisters, Ruth Copello and Betty Evans. Funeral and Committal Services for Floyd W. Carr will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church on Friday, at 11 a.m. with military honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial Detail. Officiating will be Rev. Gary Atkinson, Pastor of the Emporium United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Oakmont Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home in Ridgway, today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials, if desired, can be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church or to the donors' choice.
