On Saturday, volunteers will gather in cemeteries across the nation to honor veterans as part of National Wreaths Across America Day.
Included in the 1,200 participating cemeteries is St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, which has been involved in the program for the past eight years due to the efforts of Dolly Wehler of St. Marys, who introduced the program to the area.
Wehler initially anticipated receiving about 580 wreaths, however a call from the shipping company late last week indicated St. Marys will receive 1,791 wreaths.
Volunteers of any age are needed to help on Saturday, especially with the increase in the number of wreaths needed placed.
"Come join us in laying the wreaths at noon on Saturday, Dec. 17 at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery so we can say the name of veterans and make sure they will never be forgotten," Wehler said.
