Voting underway for fireworks venue

April 17, 2014

Photo submitted Area residents may vote online or through cash donations to determine the site of this year's Independence Day Celebration.

The site of the 2014 St. Marys Independence Day Celebration is in the hands of local residents.
As part of a new initiative votes are being tallied online and through donations at various businesses to determine the location of the event at either the St. Marys Municipal Airport or The Highlands, formerly the St. Marys Country Club.
"We don't feel it's a decision the Chamber should make because the fireworks belong to the people. They are funded by the people and area businesses therefore they are the ones who should decide," said Ashley O'Dell, Chamber outreach coordinator.
Votes may be cast through an online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6NYM6BD. This link may also be found on the Chamber's Facebook page or their website at www.stmaryschamber.org.
In an effort to raise funds for the event residents can put their money to work by visiting area businesses where donation containers are split in half with each side representing a different location. Each dollar collected is equal to one vote. Proceeds will benefit the fireworks fund.
