Walter G. Schatz

Walter G. Schatz, 83, of 1427 Rosely Rd., St. Marys, died Monday morning, March 21, 2011, at his residence after a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 20, 1927, in St. Marys, son of the late Fred and Eleanor Young Schatz.
On July 10, 1954, in the St. Mary's Church, he married Theresa K. Kestler, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys parochial schools. He was a member of the St. Mary's Church; a veteran of the Army, having served in the Korean War; was a member of the American Legion; and enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf and carpentry.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Ann Sarginger of St. Marys and Helen (Carl) Green of St. Marys; four sons, Steven (Linda) Schatz of St. Marys, Thomas (Mary) Schatz of Evansville, Wis., Paul (Mary) Schatz of St. Marys, and Lee (Jayne) Schatz of St. Marys; 18 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Schatz. He was the last member of his immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Walter G. Schatz will be celebrated in the St. Mary's Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Ferrick officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail. Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home, Center Street, this evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
