Warren eliminates St. Marys major softball stars

The St. Marys Little League Softball Major League All-Stars were eliminated from the District 10 tournament Monday evening as they lost a 12-1 contest to the Warren squad at Benzinger Park.
Warren had a total of 12 hits in last night’s contest, while St. Marys was limited to just four.
Getting the four hits for St. Marys were Josie Smith with a triple and a single and Sydney Eckert with two singles.
Rebekka Bauer went the distance on the mound for St. Marys, giving up 12 hits, walking two and striking out 10. Rachel Wilson went the distance for Warren, giving up four hits, walking one and striking out five.
Warren scored a run in the top half of the first inning on two hits and an error as they took the 1-0 lead. St. Marys left a runner on base in the home half of the inning.
Warren stranded their leadoff batter in the top of the second. St. Marys went down in order in the home half of the second.
Warren added a run to their total in the top of the third inning on one hit and an error to take a 2-0 lead. Smith led off the bottom of the inning with a triple. A squeeze bunt by Maddison LeGrys scored Smith to cut the Warren lead to 2-1.
The top of the fourth inning saw Warren score a run on two hits to increase their lead to 3-1. St. Marys went down in order in the home half of the inning.
Warren was able to score seven runs on five hits and two errors to open a 10-1 lead. In the home half of the inning, Smith led off with an infield single. With two outs, Sydney Eckert singled, sending Smith to third. Eckert moved to second on a passed ball, but both were left stranded on a flyout to center.
Warren added two runs in the top of the sixth on one hit and an error to make the score 12-1. Maggie Dinsmore reached base on an error to start the home half of the seventh. Special pinch runner Alicia Fritz was left stranded as the next three batters went down in order.
St. Marys finished play in the District 10 tournament with a 3-2 record. Warren meets the loser of Monday’s DuBois vs. Punxsutawney game on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at a site to be announced.
