Warren M. Johnson, 89, of York, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Pleasant Acres in York.Â
He was born in Grove City on May 14, 1925 and raised in Warren. He was the son of the late Eugene and Alma Christiansen Johnson. He was the husband of Marjorie (Young) Johnson for 64 years.
He was a graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology, where he was a physics major, member of Carnegieâ€™s Kiltie Band and the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
Warren was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II in the China-Berma India Theatre and also during the Korean War. He worked his entire career for Sylvania, first in St. Marys and then at the York plant. Upon retirement, Warren was the general manager at Osram Sylvania in York.
Warren enjoyed camping, hiking, music and reading military history. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in York, the York Hiking Club, the Wrightsville American Legion and past member of Kiwanis and the Knights of Columbus.
Warren is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his four children, Bob Johnson and wife Kathy of Ashville, N.C., Jo Beach of York, Tom Johnson and wife Linda of Lewisberry, and Mitchell Johnson of York; and three grandchildren, Paul and Susanne Beach, and Vickie Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Ward Johnson.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Warren M. Johnson will he held on Saturday, June 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 2935 Kingston Rd., York, with Rev. Jim Menkhus, O.F.M.Cap, as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery near St. Marys.
Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, is in charge of arrangements.
